Micromoment Magic: Noticing New Faces

“Hi, I’m (name). I (description of role). Are you new here? Can I help you find anything?”

As a consultant I go into hundreds of schools and organizations and within 10 minutes of my arrival I can tell you the ‘culture’ of the place pretty accurately. Recently, I was training in an international school and 100% of the adults in the building greeted me and at least 60% stopped, introduced themselves, and asked if I needed any help. Culture isn’t words on a wall, it is lived in the interactions between people. Forget values statements on a piece of paper, this school and everyone in it was practically shouting “We value people and community. We help each and support each other.” These small actions make up a persons’ experience of the organization and can completely transform the culture.

Want to know what values your organization projects? Ask a guest or a new employee- their fresh eyes can be the gut check or affirmation that your organization lives in alignment with your stated values. #positivepsychology #culturetransformation #communities #wellbeingmatters #organizationalculture #organizationalwellbeing #schoolculture
